Hush, observe

and dare to measure

the power of the sky,

the power of the sea,

the power of man

that ends in nothingness.

We are much too proud

to believe this,

though perhaps sky and sea

are in the same predicament.

The eternal enchants us,

so does the universe—

who knows whether our thoughts

transcend their own time?

Too many forces come into play,

let us measure with our instruments

the intensity of the wind

that alone propels this boat.
